Pool Renovation in Plano & Dallas-Fort Worth
North Texas is hard on pools. Summer heat and UV fade and etch interior finishes, hard water leaves white calcium scale along the waterline tile, and expansive clay soil swells and shrinks under the deck. Over time that movement opens gaps between the deck and coping, cracks concrete around the pool and lets water get under the surface, which makes the problem worse.
A pool renovation addresses those issues together rather than one at a time. Resurfacing the interior, replacing waterline tile and coping, and rebuilding or resurfacing the deck are often best planned as one project, because the work overlaps at the pool edge. For homeowners starting fresh, we also take on complete pool builds, planning the pool, decking and surrounding hardscape as one layout.
Tom, the owner, brings 12+ years of hands-on experience and is on site through every project. It starts with a free in-home consultation where we look at the current finish, tile, coping, deck and equipment and talk about how you use the backyard. You get a written scope and a staged payment schedule tied to completed work. Permits are handled on request.
What's included
- Complete pool builds planned together with decking, coping and the surrounding yard.
- Interior resurfacing with plaster, quartz or pebble finishes, chosen for look, feel underfoot and how they hold up to sun and water chemistry.
- Waterline tile replacement, including porcelain and glass options that make calcium scale easier to clean.
- Coping replacement in natural stone, pavers or precast, with the deck-to-coping joint detailed to allow for movement.
- Pool decking in concrete, pavers or natural stone, with attention to drainage away from the pool and surfaces that stay comfortable in the heat.
- LED lighting upgrades to replace older incandescent pool lights, with options for color and control.
- Equipment review — pump, filter and heater condition — so it is clear what should be replaced while the pool is already drained and open.
- Repair of cracked or lifted deck sections and failed expansion joints caused by soil movement.
How a project runs
- 1
Free in-home consultation
Tom walks the pool and deck with you, checks the finish, tile, coping, deck joints and equipment, and talks through goals and budget priorities.
- 2
Written scope and schedule
You get a written scope covering finishes, tile, coping, decking and lighting, plus a staged payment schedule tied to completed work. Permits and HOA paperwork are handled on request.
- 3
Timing the drain
Resurfacing requires draining the pool. Many homeowners schedule it for the cooler months, when an empty shell is less exposed to extreme heat and the refill and startup are easier to manage.
- 4
Prep and removal
The pool is drained, old tile and coping are removed where being replaced, and the old surface is prepared so the new finish bonds properly.
- 5
Tile, coping and finish
Waterline tile and coping go in first, then the interior finish is applied. Lighting upgrades are completed while the shell is open.
- 6
Decking, refill and walkthrough
Deck work is completed, the pool is refilled, and the new finish goes through its startup period. We finish with a walkthrough of every item in the scope.
What affects the cost
- Pool size and shape, which drives the surface area for finish, tile and coping.
- Finish choice — standard plaster, quartz or pebble.
- Tile and coping materials, and whether existing coping can stay.
- Deck area, material, and whether the old deck must be removed and hauled off.
- Repairs uncovered once the pool is drained, such as cracks or delaminated surface.
- Lighting upgrades and any equipment replacement.
- Access to the backyard for equipment and materials.
